Welcome to the 2013-2014 school year at Henry E. S. Reeves Elementary School, Academy of Applied Technology. I would like to extend a warm welcome to all new and returning students, parents, and business partners. I am excited and honored to lead another exciting and productive school year. The faculty and staff have established a legacy of striving for excellence through commitment and accountability, while continuing to provide a safe and positive learning environment for all students.

Henry E. S. Reeves Elementary School consistently serves as a model for innovation and best educational practices relative to curriculum standards and technology integration in all core academic areas. Our school is equipped with three state-ofthe art computer labs that have wireless access. Each classroom is furnished with at least six computer stations with internet access and Smart Board Systems with digital response pads. As part of our school-wide incentive plan, two Nintendo Wii Labs have been added to promote physical fitness with educational games.

For the past several years, Henry E. S. Reeves Elementary has implemented a school-wide departmentalized schedule. Every student has two teachers who serve as content subject area (reading, language arts, writing, and mathematics, science, and social studies) specialists. As an initiative for this school year, I’m implementing a Common Core Subject Block Schedule for 2nd and 3rd grade students. Teachers of 2nd and 3rd grade students will continue to teach their content subject to their homeroom. However, they will also teach the same subject to either a 2nd or 3rd grade class of students. This will better prepare our 2nd grade students for 3rd grade curriculum. Additionally, teachers will continue to provide a stronger instructional program to all 3rd grade classes with an additional alignment of resources. Our aim is to insure that all students receive an enriched academic program for learning success.

“It takes a village to raise a child.” I am very proud to say that at Henry E. S. Reeves Elementary, we are a village of dedicated faculty and staff members who are working tirelessly to raise student achievement for all of our students. We look forward to another exciting and successful school year. The 2013-2014 theme is “Giving Our Students the World.” We will always epitomize our quest to truly be a cut above “Success.” find out more...
